Chanukah

If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am only for myself, what am I?
And if not now, when?

Hillel

Chanukah is a time of rededication. In the depths of a particularly dark and difficult winter, we share the recognition that we are all in a situation that we have not experienced before.

This week's mitzvah is about self-care. Take a moment to yourself as you light the candles and rededicate yourself just as the Temple was rededicated. Remember, it's a process, with one question following from the other. If you skip the first question, you won't be able to answer the next two.

So... take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Take another deep breath. Become aware of your breath. What does it feel like to breathe? Open your eyes and gaze at the candles. Try one question each night!

  • What brings light to my life?
  • How can I kindle that light?
  • How can I bring more light into the world?
  • What miracles have I experienced in difficult times?
  • What miracles am I trying to cultivate in my life?
  • How can I bring about miracles in the lives of others?
  • What will I rededicate myself to this year?
