Hebrew Burial

Some months ago, our member Shira Silverman was honored by an organization that is not well known in our community: the Hebrew Free Burial Association.  You may be wondering why I am asking you to think about this organization right before the Days of Awe. It is traditional during this time of year to visit the graves of those no longer with us and to put stones on their graves as a physical reminder of what they continue to mean to us. As a community that supports one another in times of grief as well as joy, my thoughts turned to those families and individuals who do not have what we have at Tehillah.

The Hebrew Free Burial Association takes care of those who have none to care for them. It is the mitzvah of caring for the dead, one that we hold dear in our tradition, that I invite you to participate in, even as you remember those most important to you who are no longer with the living.
