Words from Our Students

Our children are our teachers.

We invite you to read their words with the following Kavanah (intention):

Each of us is unique with sparks of the Divine embedded within us. We are always changing and becoming. The poems below reflect a moment in time for our students, in light of a challenging year. They are also potent reminders of the teaching that each and everyone of us is a world and that to save a life is to save a world. May our children be blessed and continue to be our teachers

I’m from grey, relaxing days
I’m from blue moments
I’m from green pine trees
I’m from rain dripping on my skin.
--Jonah

I’m from movement when the beat hits my ears
And my feet start moving
I’m from fun when time passes.
I’m from traveling and seeing new places and exploring.
I’m from water and fire.
And I am me.
--Tamar

I am from mathematics, creating something out of nothing
I am from failure
I am from solving problems, making things better at our decision

--Ben

I’m
from fun things like books and games. I also love art, and have a kind heart.

I’m
from a loving family who celebrates events with me. My birthday, and lots of other things you see.

I’m
from a family who celebrates many things. I am part Jewish, part Irish, and lots of other things too. I take Hebrew class and learned Hebrew.

I’m
from anxiety and once had a seizure. It was really scary and I had to go to the E. R.
Though I got through lots of things which makes me a star!

I’m
from friendliness and kindness. I make lots of friends. I do not want fun to end.
But this poem is about to end. I am getting sad. I hope that is not bad.

I’m
From fun things like books and games. I also love art, and have a kind heart.
--Yara

I am from the movement.

I am from passion
of gymnastics and dance.

I am from inspiring words
The word of people and objects.
Or from anything that speaks to me.

I am from the countries of
Jamaica, Mexico and America.

I am from the clouds and rainbows. The rain and
The thunder

--Ramona

I am from a Brooklyn apartment with a light bulb on a chain taking the L train
I am from a virtual reality where I can be any character I wish
I am from building Legos to playing with toy cars and racetracks
I am from friendship among sports and school classes
I am from New York and I am proud.

--Simon
